Artist Statement
At the heart of my work is a questioning of human nature in relation to the natural world and the divine. Drawing upon and altering paintings of Biblical narratives, I create works that focus on light within framing darkness, and abstracted bodies in ambiguous landscapes. I seek to retain evidence of my hand as I work, heightening the emotional intensity of my subject matter through energetic mark and unnatural color. Through my work I grapple with humanity’s destructive nature and reflect on the violence, and vulnerability inherent to bodily existence.
